Friday, September 22...A Day

Chrome Books. Today during first block, we will distribute Chrome Books in the library to all freshmen whose parents or guardians have completed the required paperwork. Freshmen are to check into their first block class and then report to the library to pick up their Chrome Book.

Volunteer at Mystic Health Care.
 Mystic Health Care is currently seeking energetic individuals to assist in the Recreation Department to carry out activities with their residents. If you are interested, contact Denice Senior, Recreation Director at (860) 536-6070

Volunteer with Ledyard Prevention Coalition. The Coalition is looking for motivated and creative teens to be part of a group and help with some of their drug and alcohol prevention projects which include music, video and picture projects, radio announcements, writing, acting and/or producing a play, create and design drug and alcohol prevention posters etc. If you are interested, please stop in the Guidance Office for an application. 

Job Opportunity. Stoneridge Retirement Community is looking for part-time servers in the main dining room.  Hours are from 4:45 – 8:45 pm. You must be 16 years old and be able to converse with the elderly residents.  Starting wage is $10.10 per hour. If you are interested you can apply through Indeed or online at their website. If you have any other questions contact Rich Topkin, Dining Manager at (860) 572-5681.

Essay Contest. The competition is sponsored by the Connecticut Bar Foundation James W. Cooper Fellows Quintin Johnstone. The topic for the  2017-2018 Essay Contest is “Diversity Disagreement?” A grand prize of $2,000 and two runner-up prizes of $1,000 will be awarded. Essays will be judged by Federal and State court Judges, Law Professors and Lawyers, and the award ceremony will be held at Connecticut Supreme Court. For more information visit the website at www.ctbarfdn.org. Postmark deadline is February 23, 2018.

College Planning Night. Tuesday, 9/26, at 6:30pm

Poet Laureate. Ledyard High School is in search of this year's Poet Laureate. If you are a senior who loves to write poetry, please consider applying. Your poems will be featured at the National Honor Society induction, in the yearbook, and at graduation. Plus, in the spring, you'll have the opportunity to workshop in Mystic with the regional high school poets laureate as well as with a professional poet. Please submit an application packet of five poems to Mrs. Fagan in the Main Office by Friday, October 6, if you are interested. Be sure your name is on them!

Crew Club.
 
The LHS Crew Club & Noank Rowing Club are joining forces to host a fun pasta supper FUNdraiser & basket raffle. Join us at the Noank Baptist Church from 5:00 to 6:30pm on Friday, September 29!

Student Leadership Council. The Student Leadership Council is pleased to introduce junior Olivia Strelevitz as the newest member of the Board of Education and a coordinator of the SLC. 

Beekeeping Interests?
 

Did you know LHS is one of a handful of high schools in Connecticut who have active honeybee colonies on campus? Are you a student interested in bee keeping but do not have the funds to purchase the equipment for your own use or know who to contact for help? Please follow the provided link for a scholarship opportunity offered by the 

Connecticut Beekeepers Association. The recipient will receive a complete beehive, including bees, protective clothing, equipment needed to start beekeeping, access to the CBA Bee School and periodic meetings with a mentor to help get them started for their first year as a beekeeper.
