The Selection Process


The Student Leadership Council (SLC) of Ledyard High School consists of seven members. Each member of the SLC represents a specific club, activity, organization, or society within Ledyard High School. Representatives from the seven areas are chosen through a nomination process. Students must be actively involved in the club, activity, organization, or society that they are nominated from. It is possible for a student to be nominated for multiple positions, but he/she may fill only one spot on the Council. Students are only eligible for the Student Leadership Council if they are involved with the clubs, activities, organizations and societies mentioned within the Charter. The following information details the selection process for each club, activity, organization, or society of the Student Leadership Council. 

Clubs. The Student Representatives of the Ledyard Board of Education will receive nominations from the faculty advisors of the various clubs within Ledyard High School. The Student Representatives to the Ledyard Board of Education will then evaluate the list of potential Council members and appoint one individual to the Council.

National Honor Society (NHS).  The officers or executive committee of the Serena B. Mowry Chapter of the National Honor Society will consult with their Faculty Advisor to appoint a non-officer as a member of the Council. Their appointee will be submitted to the Student Representatives of the Ledyard Board of Education with an explanation of their selection. The Student Representatives will not evaluate this appointment.

Tri-M Music Honor Society.  The officers or executive committee of Tri-M will consult with their Faculty Advisor to appoint a non-officer as a member of the Council. Their appointee will be submitted to the Student Representatives of the Ledyard Board of Education with an explanation of their selection. The Student Representatives will not evaluate this appointment.

National FFA Organization.  The officers or executive committee of the Ledyard Chapter of the National FFA Organization will consult with their Faculty Advisor(s) to appoint a member who is neither the President or Vice-President nor a Ledyard resident to the Council. This appointment will be submitted to the Student Representatives of the Ledyard Board of Education with an explanation of the selection. The Student Representatives will not evaluate this appointment.

Sports.  One athlete shall be nominated by the Athletic Director of Ledyard High School. The Student Representatives to the Ledyard Board of Education shall convene a meeting to evaluate the nominee and approve him/her or submit a request to the Athletic Director for a new nominee. The individual selected by the Student Representatives to the Ledyard Board of Education shall be appointed to the Council.

Freshman Advisory.  Following freshman officer elections each fall, the Faculty Advisor of the Freshman Class Advisory will nominate one member of the Freshman Class Advisory. The Student Representatives to the Ledyard Board of Education shall convene a meeting to evaluate the nominee and approve him/her or submit a request to the Faculty Advisor for a new nominee. The individual selected by the Student Representatives to the Ledyard Board of Education shall be appointed to the Council.

Sophomore, Junior, & Senior Advisories and Student Congress.  The Faculty Advisors of the Sophomore, Junior, & Senior Advisories and Student Congress may nominate students from each class advisory. All students, including officers of the class advisories, are eligible for nomination. After consulting with the Faculty Advisors of each class and of the Student Congress, the Student Representatives will appoint one individual to the Student Leadership Council.
