Career Center

The Career Center at Ledyard High School is proud to offer valuable tools and opportunities for students to develop realistic career goals and objectives. Each year the Career Center coordinates a College & Trade School Fair, Career Day and ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Testing.  The Career Center has information on volunteer opportunities, part-time employment opportunities, job shadows and field trips. Students who utilize these fundamentals of career development are able to make educated decisions about their future; saving time, money and frustration.

All students are required to complete a Student Success Plan (SSP). The SSP will document each student’s academic, career and social/emotional development. Students will more easily be able to make connections between their interests, coursework and career plans.

The Career Center partnered with the School Counseling and Guidance department will assist students in completing the following tasks utilizing Naviance:

Grade 9 –  The “Career Interest Profiler” is a tool that can help you discover the types of work activities and careers that match your interests.

Grade 10- AchieveWorks Personality (formerly “Do What You Are”) - is a self discovery personality type assessment.

Grade 11- Build a Resume/College Search/Game Plan

Grade 12- College Applications/Post High School Transition

All of these tasks (and others) will be documented within Naviance as part of each student’s SSP. The SSP will guide a student toward a particular Career Pathway. A Career Pathway is a recommended sequence of courses that provide foundational knowledge and skills in a chosen career area, qualifying for entry-level employment in technical areas and preparing students for the more rigorous technical courses in college.

Occupational Outlook Handbook - The OOH can help you find career information on duties, education and training, pay, and future outlook for hundreds of occupations.
