SAT-PSAT-ACT Testing

All Test dates and registration information is available at www.collegeboard.org or www.actstudent.org .

PSAT School Day
The PSAT/NMSQT is administered to all juniors and sophomores once a year in October.  Juniors taking the PSAT are eligible for the National Merit Scholarships.

Scores are available through the student CollegeBoard account.

Help Accessing Your Scores

After logging into your College Board account, click Add Scores. In the Matching Tool, it is essential that your information in the account matches what was entered on the answer sheet. For example, if you put “Elizabeth” on your answer sheet and “Beth” in your account, your scores will not load. If you need to change your name, you must call Customer Service at 1-866-756-7346. All other changes can be made right in your account.

If that still doesn’t populate the scores, you will be prompted to indicate which test you’re missing and put in your unique access code to assist the match. See your counselor for access code if you did not get it emailed to you.

Understanding Your Scores: This page is a good resource for students and parents, particularly for understanding percentiles.

SAT

The Connecticut SAT School day is administered each Spring for all juniors. Testing is an important part of the college application process. Although it certainly does not replace the value of a student’s transcript, the college will use the scores as one of their tools in deciding college acceptance. Many 4-year colleges require that an applicant take the SAT as part of the application process.  In addition to the SAT School day, some students may choose to retake the SAT during a Saturday administration  that are offered throughout the year at various nearby locations. Visit www.collegeboard.org and talk with your school counselor to get more information.

ACT
The ACT is comprised of four tests: English, Math, Reading and Science Reasoning. There is also an optional Writing section. All registration information, test dates and locations are available on the ACT web site www.actstudent.org

SENDING SCORES
Students are responsible for sending all score information to the school of their choice. The Collegeboard offers “Score Choice” which allows students to opt in to a policy allowing them to select which scores colleges receive. Please visit www.collegeboard.org/scstudent or www.actstudent.org for more information about sending scores.

TEST PREPARATION (Prep Courses)
Ledyard High School recommends the use of Khan Academy for SAT preparation. The CollegeBoard has partnered with Khan Academy to build a personalized practice program. This tool is free and available now to every student at www.khanacademy.org/sat. Learn more info and view Khan Academy/CollegeBoard SAT Prep Partnership.
In addition to Khan Academy, reference materials can be found in the guidance office and in our school library media center.  Most public libraries also have test prep materials. Resources are available for purchase online and in most bookstores as well. There are tips and practice tests as well as computer software available. These are excellent ways to prepare for college testing but the best advice we can offer is for you to take challenging courses, prepare well for them and read, read, read!

TOEFL
The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) measures the ability of non-native English speakers to communicate in English in an academic setting. It accurately measureshow well students can read, listen, speak and write in English in the college or university classroom. Please visit www.ets.org/toefl to register.
