Course Selection Instructions 2026-27

Announcements:

Congratulations to our Colonels! Last week and into the long weekend, we had quite a few noteworthy events and accomplishments.

  • Gymnastics. Our co-op gymnastics team won their second consecutive ECC championship, with junior Skylar Cimino and sophomore Alyssa McLeod performing well. Alyssa was the ECC All-Around champion!

  • Girls' Wrestling. The girls' wrestling team won the first ever ECC championship, placing first out of 12 teams. Junior Kaitlyn Schlimgen won her division!

  • Indoor Track. Junior Eva Di Garbo won the State Class M pole vault title on Friday evening, clearing a personal best of 10 feet, 6 inches.

  • Wrestling. The ECC wrestling team won the ECC Championships behind a very strong team effort and 1st place finishes from freshman George Jolley, and sophomores Noah Caisse and Lucas Boxley.

  • AgriScience. The agriscience barn crew was on hand Saturday to welcome a new lamb into Colonel Nation -- welcome to the world, Pooh Bear!

  • Ocean Bowl. LHS took two teams to the Quahog Bowl, a competition with 12 schools from New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The "A" team (Mason Banks, Mackenzie Caise, Alex Olczak, Nicole Opalenik, and Gaby Rader) won four of five preliminary rounds before losing a close match in the semifinals. They placed 3rd overall and won the sportsmanship award!

Ski Club. The final trip of the year will be a day trip to Berkshire East on March 6. Pick up paperwork in Room 211 or contact Mr. Jannke.

Rotary Four-Way Speech Contest (Date Changes!). Ledyard Rotary is hosting their annual speech competition March 2, 3, and 4, in Room 305, after school until 3:00pm, open to any LHS student. The speech could win $200 for 1st place and a chance to represent LHS and Ledyard Rotary in regional competition and the chance to win an additional $500. Click here to see the the information flyer. Course Selection for 2026-27. The online portal for selecting courses for the 2026-27 academic year will open January 30 and remain open through February 9. Students in grades 9-11 will need to log into PowerSchool and complete the course selection process. Click on the "Course Selection Instructions" above for more details!

FFA Week. Our annual FFA Week runs from February 24-28, and it is dedicated to sharing the impact members have made on the agricultural industry. The AgriScience program will be hosting a Spirit Week during National FFA Week! Join us in five exciting dress up days next month to show your school spirit. See the details HERE. We encourage everyone to get involved and unite with our AgriScience students as we celebrate FFA Week!

Student Parking. To obtain a permit to park on campus, licensed seniors and juniors may bring payment of $25 (cash or check payable to Ledyard High School), their license and registration, and the completed pages three and four of the parking packet to the Main Office. They can find the packet HERE, or linked above, sent to them via email, or in hard copy in the Main Office.

ONGOING CLUB MEETINGS:

Dungeons and Dragons Club. Dungeons and Dragons will meet Mondays after school in room 106, from 2:10-3:30pm.  Email Ms. Szell at sszell@ledyard.net or stop by her room with any questions. All are welcome to attend!

GSA. The Gender and Sexualities Alliance meets after school on Mondays from 2:05 to 2:45 in room 211, as well as during Activity Periods in room 111. GSA is run by students for students, and is open to everyone of all backgrounds. Join the Classroom with code mwfc5c3m.

More Than Words. More Than Words is a student leadership group aimed at supporting and celebrating the variety of cultures and students at LHS. Meetings are held every Tuesday all year long. Meetings are after school in room 211 until 3:30 (you can leave early if necessary). Join the Classroom with code uzbmvlb. Contact Mr. Jannke for more information.

Magic the Gathering Club. Magic, the Gathering is a superb card game that’s easy to learn and fun to play.  Everyone is welcome, with any level of experience!  We have games and tournaments every Tuesday after school in room 215/216 and are always happy to teach new players.  Bring your own deck or borrow one of ours.  All materials are provided.  Come learn a new game and meet new people!

Cupcakes and Causes. Cupcakes and Causes is a think-tank, of sorts, in which we discuss causes of worldwide concern and eat delicious cupcakes. Meetings are held after school once a month on a Wednesday in room 211. For more info and meeting dates see Mr. Jannke or join the Google Classroom with code qjswh24.

Youth Alive. The Youth Alive Bible Club will begin holding after school meetings every other Wednesday in room 102 beginning September 10th. All are welcome.

National Ocean Science Bowl. This group meets Wednesdays after school in room 103... 2:10-3:00 PM. Are you interested in the ocean and want a chance to test your knowledge? The ocean bowl is a quiz bowl style competition, want to learn more? Email Mr. Bednarz at dbednarz@ledyard.net or simply show up on Wednesday afternoon.

Key Club. Getting involved with school and community service is great for making connections, helping others, building your resume, etc., all while having fun. To sign up for Key Club events and to know meeting times, join the Classroom with code mjg4otj. Contact Mr. Jannke in 211 for more.

Interact Club. The Interact Club is the youth Rotary club for LHS. If you are looking to volunteer with service projects and help with other Rotary needs, this is the club. You will have opportunities to give back to the community while developing leadership skills and working with Rotarians who are active in their career or retired. Service projects and activities range from Rotary events like the Car Cruise, to powderpuff football, to blood drive organization, to distributing dictionaries to third graders, or to helping with town clean up efforts. If interested, please attend Activity Period meetings Mr. Wiz's room, 305 and join the Google classroom, 4zkhduj, for an update of available events and announcements.

Tutoring Program. The National Honor Society runs a tutoring program. Students tutor other students. If you would like to tutor others, join the Google Classroom with code fszwuxt (non-NHS tutors are welcome/needed!). To request a tutor, email Ariana Gutierrez at gutierrez-durana@ledyard.net. Service Opportunities. Mr. Jannke (room 211) runs a Google Classroom called "Service Opportunities." Requests from other schools, organizations, and community members are regularly posted. If you are looking to do more community service activities, join the Classroom with code tjxoi34 and then sign up for events. Community service is personally rewarding and it helps build your resume for whatever you choose to do after high school. Get involved, help, and have fun.
