The Student Poet Laureate, or "Honored Poet," is chosen as a
junior after submitting five poems to a selection panel. Submissions
will be judged by a team of faculty and staff judges. The student
selected will meet with the Poet Laureate adviser after being selected
for the purpose of further developing the poet's skills and style. In
the fall of his or her senior year, the poet will begin preparation for
publication of a minimum of eleven poems: one in each edition of our
school's The Colonel Newsmagazine, one in Horizons (our
yearbook), one to be read at the National Honor Society induction
ceremony, and one to be read at their class's graduation. In addition,
the Poet Laureate will contribute regularly to the Inner Visions
arts magazine. Other possible publications/responsibilities include:
sending poems to local publications, creative writing exchanges and
workshops, classroom visitations, hosting a literary arts night,
reading a poem at Blue and White Days, and other opportunities which
present themselves.
