Good afternoon. In the great news department:
Today, we held a signing ceremony for Ledyard High School senior Isabella Buckley. Isabella signed a national letter of intent to attend Southern Methodist University to continue her academic and athletic career in the sport of equestrian. Isabella will be on full athletic scholarship. Although we do not offer the sport of equestrian at Ledyard High School, we are very proud of Isabella and felt this significant accomplishment deserved the appropriate recognition within our school building and school community. Only 2% of high school athletes in our country are awarded athletic scholarships to compete in college. In the sport of equestrian, each school is allowed only 15 scholarships. Today was quite an achievement for Isabella and her family.
Isabella is a multiple world and congress champion and has led the nation on horsemanship and showmanship. She will now become a member of the nationally ranked, Division I SMU equestrian team while majoring in business management and minoring in Finance. Congratulations Isabella! Winter Sports Night will be held on Wednesday November 19 at 7:00pm in the main gymnasium. After a brief departmental meeting, individual team meetings will be held. You will be able to meet our winter coaching staff and gather information pertaining to winter sports start dates, tryout times, practice schedules and game schedules. All students who plan to participate in a winter sport should attend the meeting with a parent/guardian. Please note, our winter sports registration portal is open. If you have not registered as of yet, you must do so before the end of this week (Friday November 21). Registrations (medical and other information) will not be approved over the holiday break. Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week! #LHScolonelpride
National Honor Society, in partnership with the Linda C. Davis food pantry in Ledyard, is sponsoring a food drive from November 10-21. The food pantry has specifically requested baking necessities, so NHS requests that freshmen bring cake mix and frosting; sophomores bring boxed brownie, cookie, or muffin mix; juniors bring vanilla extract, vegetable oil, and chocolate chips; and seniors bring sugar, flour, and brown sugar. All donations will be gratefully received in the lobby each morning!
Come out and support the Colonels on Friday night as we celebrate Senior Night. Kickoff is at 6pm. Ledyard High School students (note: LHS students only) will be admitted free of charge if they donate a non-perishable food item at the ticket table.
